Dewel Movies: Independent Film Distribution Reimagined

Independent filmmakers have always faced an uphill battle getting their work in front of audiences. Today, we're launching Dewel Movies to change that. Our platform gives independent filmmakers a direct path to viewers who are hungry for content beyond Hollywood blockbusters.

The Problem We're Solving

Traditional film distribution is broken for independents. Getting into major film festivals is increasingly competitive, with acceptance rates often below 5%. Even if you do get accepted, converting that festival buzz into actual distribution deals is another challenge entirely.

Meanwhile, streaming giants like Netflix and Amazon are cutting back on independent acquisitions, focusing instead on big-budget originals and established franchises. The result? Thousands of quality independent films that never find their audience.

We built Dewel Movies to create a new path—one that doesn't require festival validation or studio backing. A platform where quality independent films can find viewers who appreciate bold storytelling and unique perspectives.

A Platform Built for Indies

Dewel Movies is built exclusively for independent films. We work directly with filmmakers to distribute their work, offering terms that actually make sense for independent productions. Our revenue share model gives filmmakers 65% of rental and purchase revenue—compared to the 30-40% typical of traditional distribution deals.

We don't require exclusivity, so filmmakers can distribute their work on Dewel Movies while pursuing other opportunities. And unlike platforms that bury independent content behind algorithms optimized for mainstream appeal, we actively promote independent films through curated collections, editorial features, and personalized recommendations.

How It Works

For viewers, the model is simple: rent or buy films directly from our platform. Rentals typically cost $4.99 for 48-hour access, while purchases range from $9.99 to $14.99 for permanent access. We also offer a Dewel Movies Pass subscription at $12.99/month that includes unlimited rentals and early access to new releases.

For filmmakers, submission is straightforward. Upload your film, provide metadata and promotional materials, and set your pricing. Our team reviews submissions for technical quality (not creative merit—we trust filmmakers to decide what's worth sharing), and approved films typically go live within 2-3 weeks.

Growing Our Library

We launched with a catalog of over 200 independent films spanning documentaries, dramas, comedies, horror, and experimental work. Our library includes award-winning festival favorites alongside hidden gems that never got traditional distribution.

We're continuously adding new films and actively seeking submissions from filmmakers around the world. Whether you've made a feature-length documentary, a narrative short, or an experimental film that defies categorization, we want to hear from you.
